Yamaha YZF R15 version 2.0

Yamaha YZF-R15 version-2 is characterized by same hybrid design that combines  the world-class design of the YZF-R15  with some localized functions.Indian Yamaha Motors  on September 7,2011 launched the  upgraded version on its premium motorcycle YZF-R15 version 2.0 as Japnese bike maker hopes to cross 5-lakh sales figure in 2011.The  R15 version 2.0 has undergone changes as compared to the present YZF r15 in the specs  of the engine control  unit(ECU),drive train unit, a long aluminium swing arm, wider front and rear tires(radial tire for the rear),split seat,LED taillights and new design middle cowl and tail cowl..

Aggressive   style:

Yamaha Company says that they have a “R” characteristic in their design which is adopted in R15 and now in R15 version-2.When I say that design is inspired from R1 then there is really nothing much left to say as we know about the success and design of R1 very well, however, in layman’s language, bike has stunning looks.

Double horn:

The new R15 gets a double horn with larger volume and sound quality is adopted. This helps in alerting the road users ahead, especially when riding at higher speeds.

New-design middle cowl:

The new R15 features a newly designed middle cowl which improves the bike’s aerodynamics by 4 per cent for improved high speed performance. The cowl performs two functions: the layered structure offer a cooling effect and directing the air outflow away with greater efficiency.YZF-R1 and YZF-R6 are equipped with under cowls that are based on the image of a diffuser, to give them the best form for aero-management. These are not cowls for simply enclosing the engine, but forms composed of blade surfaces that actively control airflow. This spirit has been directly inherited by YZF-R15.

New-design 5-spoke wheels:

The new 5-spoke alloy wheels pattern is unique in a way. It has ten thinner spokes group two by two to form five spokes. This design creates a balance between strength and lightness of the wheels.

Wider radial rear tyre:

The rear radial tyre has a 130 mm width, an upgrade from the slimmer 100 mm width in the first version bike. The radial tyre has two advantages: highly rigid for increased grip and reduced rolling resistance for better fuel economy.

Rear mud guard:

The rear mud guard blends seamlessly into the sari guard which is attached to the swing arm. This harmonizes the sportiness and utility of the R15 version 2.0.

Digital Meter :

Aluminium swing arm:

The long swing arm design in the new R15 has been derived from the YZR-M1 MotoGP race machine. Yamaha states that the R15 version 2.0 is the first bike in India to get aluminium long rear arm which improves the handling in the turns. It has a truss structure for greater rigidity. The long rear arm design helps in ensuring better rear traction with minimal chassis movement.

Large 220 mm rear disc brake:

The R15 version 2.0 has a 220 mm large rear disc brake to ensure good braking power and operability. The rear disc is coupled with the piston-slide type single-pot caliper.

New exhaust system design:

The exhaust system has a carbon finish on the surface and has been mounted in an angle to accentuate the feeling of upward thrust to the bike’s rear.

Split seat:

The R15 version 2.0 has separate section seat to give the rider, a better feeling of seat grip in sporty riding. Yamaha has optimized shape of inner thigh contact area; used slip-resistance seat cover (surface) and a cushioned front edge of the rear seat, making the rider feel secure, while leaning front or sideways during spirited rides.

New tail cowl:

The new tail cowl has a sharp ending and is equipped with LED taillights design resembling the YZF-R6 model.

ENGINE:

One characteristic of YZF-R15’s new engine is that it is liquid-cooled. The engine is surrounded by a water jacket in which coolant liquid circulates to cool the engine. While this method is widely used in automobiles and large capacity motorcycles, there are very few examples of motorcycles of this class due to increased weight from components such as radiators. YZF-R15 uses a special compact and lightweight aluminum radiator and a body design that utilizes airflow for heat dissipation. This has enabled us to create a lightweight, compact body while retaining its stable performance.

The benefits of using this method include stable performance during long-distance, high-speed riding and hill climbing. A liquid-cooled engine does not need heat-dissipating fins and therefore the engine is able to deliver its best performance without being affected by temperature. Additionally, because the head and cylinder are enclosed in a water jacket, mechanical noise from the engine is reduced dramatically.
