What Are Some of the Applications of AI in Today’s World?

Artificial Intelligence has taken the world by storm, with thousands of small AI businesses that are applying machine learning to modern business tasks, while people like Elon Musk are already working on chips to be inserted into the brain, which will give paralyzed people the use of their limbs. Where will it end? No one knows the answer to that question, but we do know how machine learning is integrating into the world, and here are a few examples.

MACHINE
  • Medical – There are US hospitals and universities that have trained banks of computers to accurately diagnose X-Ray images. They begin by feeding the system 100,000 X-Ray images and the program learns as it goes and can already outperform the human. AI controls the robotic arms that carry out delicate brain surgery and we are not far away from an instant health assessment/diagnosis from a mobile app. The Internet of Things will be the platform that empowers AI and we can look forward to a new dimension of healthcare, with humanoid robots as carers. Managed IT services in Toronto and around the world will need to build on their existing skillsets to ensure that the services they offer align with the new technology employed in the medical world.
  • Transport management & logistics – AI driven traffic management systems are already in operation worldwide and when the Internet of Things is up and running, all transport systems will be managed by AI. That includes air traffic control and the tracking of all marine vessels; the world of transportation has entered a new dimension of global connectivity, never before seen.
  • Marketing – Google has unknown amounts of data that tracks all of our online behaviour and AI is used to calculate complex algorithms. Ever noticed how your browser is bombarded for something right after you Googled it? The tech giants have long known the value of our data and they have everything you ever did online; they know your preferences and shopping habits and behind the scenes, they are making a fortune. • Sport – We are only a few years away from AI refereeing a ball game, whether football or any other team sport; indeed, VAR is used in the Premier League soccer, which is the foundation for virtual refereeing. Hi-def cameras send data that is processed in milliseconds, and frames can be stopped, slowed down, and analyzed. Can you imagine a robot referee in the boxing ring! Who knows where AI will take us?
  • Product design – There was one AI start-up that attached thousands of sensors to a Porsche 911 Turbo and sent the car around the track a few times at top speed; they used this data to get AI to design a car chassis, which was out of this world and better than anything a human could have imagined. AI is the future and for any business that wants global connectivity, managed IT services are the way to go.
  • Other applications – Other applications of AI will include voice search, dynamic pricing, chatbots etc

Is Artificial Intelligence a Boon or Threat?

Elon Musk exactly framed “If you’re not concerned about AI safety, you should be. Vastly more risk than North Korea.”
According to IBM, businesses can reduce customer service costs by up to 30% by implementing such solutions.

The above statements clearly specify that there are positives as well as negatives. Any advanced technology would come with some drawbacks. When we look at the amount of automation, no doubt AI is a boon to the human race but safety plays a pivotal role. Follow the link for a detailed discussion.

The Canadian government offers small businesses a lot of help & support and machine learning will change our lives in so many ways.
