 What is Home Area Network?

Home Area Network is a type of Local Area Network which is used to establish connection amongst smart devices present within home(premises) at a lower price.

The sky rocketing cost of energy production has necessitated a more efficient energy consumption process. This has brought evolution in electrical equipment manufacturing and energy metering infrastructure. To make power consumption in households much lesser and to prevent unnecessary wastage of energy home automation is developing technology. Home area network (HAN) is one such automated system which is an advanced electrical eco-system aimed at reducing power consumption of home electrical devices. Devices capable of participating in this network are smart devices such as network printers and handheld mobile computers. HAN adopts the usage of a smart energy meter that communicates with HAN components to control energy consumption profile.

Armed with the latest technological advancements in the field of energy utilization HANS are ready to supplant the traditional
electrical ecosystems at home.  Usage through bar codes, or an RFID tag, and prepare a shopping list or even automatically order replacements.

Home automation can also provide a remote interface to home appliances or the automation system itself, via telephone line,
wireless transmission or the internet, to provide control and monitoring via a smart phone or web browser. A home network usually relies on modem, router or network switch to establish physical layer, data link layer, and network layer connectivity both internally amongst devices and externally with outside networks.
